Look who is getting into the wedding business?

It officially unveils on February 14th…naturally.

I adore this photo of the bride and groom greeting the bride’s beloved grandfather, Milt. Milt and his wife, Dee, have been married for SIXTY YEARS!!!!!!!
This moment occurred at a particularly hectic time. It was right in the middle of the frenzy of the group formals. People were cold, anxious to get through the photos and needing everything to happen at once, as is normal for that particular part of the day. While I was addressing these concerns, my second shooter, Kim Maguire, followed the bride and groom to her grandfather and captured this sweet moment. You would never know that there was chaos swirling around them.
Katy used to work for me back in the day. We became fast friends over our love of photography (specifically b/w film and holga cameras) and Labrador Retrievers. She was also a blast to work with. But that was in the earlier part of the last decade. Then she moved to San Francisco, had a baby boy, moved back home and life was busy, busy…oh yeah, she also went to grad school while in San Francisco. Anyway, we have had a terrible time trying to carve out some time with our equally busy schedules. Then one day in late October I received a voice mail message from a very sleepy-sounding Katy. She said: “I’ve just had triplets and I’m too weak to photograph them. Can you do it for me?”
Ummmm. You just did WHAAAAT???
Talk about falling out of touch. Of course I said yes and was delighted to shoot them (and hold them for awhile) before I left for India.
So here they are, from left to right: Alex, Robert and Elizabeth!

We shot a lovely wedding on October 30th and I had to share this oh-so-appropriate cake topper!

One of my favorite things to photograph on a wedding day is the preparation. There is such an energy surrounding the final moments before a wedding ceremony. There are many things that you know will happen: the bride will be put into her dress, veil will be put into place, the men will have boutineers pinned on. But there are these in between moments we are always waiting for. The real emotion that is captured, not created.
There is a lot of love in this photo between the bride and her mom. It makes me smile every time I see it.
Happy Monday,
