When a bride loves shoes, I mean really REALLY loves shoes….

She buys all her bridesmaids Jimmy Choos. And yes, those are her fancytown Christian Louboutin’s in the middle. This was some very serious shoe obsession. Not to mention an outrageously generous bridesmaid’s gift!!

I hope you are all enjoying this holiday weekend!

Possibly the best wedding proposal EVER….

First of all, I would like to apologize about my absence from Photosmashing.  We are experiencing our busiest wedding season ever – which is wonderful (and exhausting)!  However, it has prevented me from writing and uploading photos here.  I promise that I will be more diligent about this in the future.  We have a lot of exciting things coming down the pipe.  Most of which I cannot share with you yet, arrgh!!  But it’s all every exciting.  Sorry for the teaser.  For now I will leave you with the most amazing wedding proposal I have yet to see.  It totally makes me cry every time.  Enjoy!

Holga – Taj Mahal

During my trip to India last November, we visited the Taj Mahal on a drizzly, kind of chilly day.  It was a fairly miserable six hour bus ride to get to Agra from New Delhi.  Needless to say, we weren’t in the best of spirits.  However, it was beautiful regardless.  It IS the Taj Mahal after all.  Did you know that The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died while giving birth to their fourteenth child?

***pause***

FOURTEENTH CHILD?!?

Moving on…she dies, and he’s so grief stricken that he orders the court into mourning for two years.   Some time later (around 1632) he began erecting the Taj in memory of his beloved.  It took 22 years and over 22,000 workers to complete it.  There is also a myth that upon completion, Shah Jahan had the hands of his architects and sculptors cut off so the could never create anything as beautiful as the Taj Mahal.  By the way, up until this very moment, I took this gruesome piece of information as fact until I started researching the Taj.  Of course it’s a myth!

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum and both the Shah Jahan and his third wife’s tombs are inside.  It is one of the seven wonders of the world.  I recommend seeing it at the beginning of a trip to India, so it will properly knock your socks off.  Here’s some photos I took on this particularly murky day in India:

PS – The emperor also had two other wives.  Ugh, talk about playing second fiddle.  I would have hated to be those ladies!

San Francisco sneak peek…

We just returned from shooting a wedding in San Francisco.   Glorious, glorious, glorious, I tell you!  There is much more coming from this wedding.  But here is a sneak peek:

Thanks to Stacy McCain and her team for their wonderful event planning and attention to detail!  Of course, you’ll see their hard work in the next post about this wedding.  The reception at The Ferry Building was gorgeous.

Stay tuned,

West Texas Wildfire Benefit

Hotel San Jose, Jo’s Coffee, Decoder Ring and Frank announce the West Texas Wildfire Relief Benefit to be held on May 6th in the Hotel San Jose/Jo’s parking lot from 6 to 10 pm. The show is free and open to all to attend, with a requested donation at the door.

The West Texas Wildfire Relief Benefit will feature live music performances by Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards, Amy Cook & David Garza,… and Moonlight Towers. Food and beverage sponsors include Shiner, Frank, Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue and Home Slice Pizza. We’ll have a silent auction full of great items from local businesses. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Jeff Davis County Relief Fund, Marfa Public Radio, and the Marfa and Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Departments.

The wildfires in Far West Texas, which have been burning since April 9 and are currently only 66% contained, have consumed over 275,000 acres, destroyed dozens of homes, killed livestock and wildlife, and jeopardized the livelihoods of countless ranchers and residents. Extremely dry conditions coupled with high winds continue to fuel the fires, which gained new momentum as recently as April 27, when the damaged area grew by 44,000 acres in a single day.

The Jeff Davis County Relief Fund has been established to help those affected by the Rock House Fire started in Marfa, TX. For more info on the Jeff Davis County Relief Fund, see jeffdaviscountyrelief.org.

Marfa Public Radio serves a critical role in the spread of emergency information in the Far West Texas Region and has acted as an invaluable resource during the wildfires to announce evacuations, coordinate local relief efforts and keep the community informed. For more information about Marfa Public Radio or to listen to live streaming coverage of the fires, visit marfapublicradio.org.

The Marfa and Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Departments consist of local area volunteers who were first responders to the wildfires and who have been working tirelessly in cooperation with the Texas Forest Service to get the fires contained even as they threaten their own homes and communities. For more information on these local heroes, please see marfavfd.org and fortdavisvfd.org, respectively.

Shannon + Will, the details.

One of the things I loved about this wedding is that Shannon and Will had an actual logo designed for their wedding and it was repeated throughout the design elements of their reception.  Also there was a handful of fonts that were used and also repeated throughout the event.  This worked nicely to pull everything together.  So here are some photos showing off those details….

In the above photo, the image on the left is of the wedding ceremony program and on the right it’s the menu card.  The same logo, fonts and colors are used on both.  The photos below feature a truly spectacular candy table and pecan pie table in addition to the cake that was served up.  You might actually get a sugar high from just looking at these photos!

There was a cigar roller who also had the same signage on his table complete with labels on each of the cigar featuring their logo:

And now for some fun reception candids….

There were actually more details to be showcased but this will have to do – for now…

The Fairy Godmothers and The Driskell Hotel made this wedding extra special!  Shannon, please weigh in on who did your paper products and logo design!

I’m off to go see Arcade Fire play!!

Have a good evening,

Shannon + Will

Wellies served as gifts for the bridesmaids!  Althought they didn’t wear them during the wedding, these boots did come in handy when there were many drinks spilled on the dance floor towards the end of the reception!

Adorable customized flasks were the gifts for the groomsmen – a lovely idea, I thought…

I love the way they transformed the ballroom of The Driskell Hotel.  The draping and the screens on the panels (making them look like windows), was really beautiful and a unique attention to detail.

Check back tomorrow for a second post from this wedding.  It will be chock-full of details!
